2011 FACHC Legislative Forum - February 2011

The Florida Association of Community Health Centers holds the Legislative Forum each February in Tallahassee.

This event is scheduled to coincide when the Legislature will be holding interim committee meetings in preparation for the session in the following month. This is a great opportunity to join other FACHC members and health center advocates in a concerted effort to support health centers across the state. That is the time to further educate legislators what health centers do for their constituents and tell them for what we wish in the coming session.

There is a reason so many entities pay thousands of dollars for advocacy efforts, it works. Health centers need full participation from all its members for maximum impact. Working together, we can strengthen health centers and the health care safety-net in Florida.

2010 Organizational Session and 2011 Legislative Session notes

The Constitution of the State of Florida states: “On the 14th day following each general election the legislature shall convene for the exclusive purpose of organization and selection of officers.” The Senate President and Speaker of the House officially appoint committee chairs and name the members of each committee at this time, thereby allowing work to begin in preparation for the regular session.  The Florida Legislature uses this time to elect officers and adopt its rules two weeks after the General Election which occurs in November. This brief session is called the Organizational Session and occurs 14 days following a General Election.

The legislature meets in regular session on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March of each year. A regular session may last 60 consecutive calendar days.  The 2011 Legislative Session will commence on March 8, 2011.

Interim Committee Meetings will be scheduled at a later date (Nov/Dec).
